Eaton Lions Club (Inc)

Western Australia, District 201W2

The Eaton Lions are in the business of helping the community.

We believe there are interesting projects and activities that could be done to raise funds and engage with the community.

Our goal as a club is to experiment with alternative fundraising activities with a view of creating step-by-step guides for other Lions Clubs to adapt.

Catering Trailer

More detail

The trailer is intended to be a mobile kitchen and cool room that can be mobilised and delivered on-site in the event of an emergency such as a bushfire or flood. The concept is for the kitchen to be self-contained with water, power, gas to support a large freezer/coolroom and BBQ hotplates.

The large white trailer has been affectionately named "Elephant" as an acronym of Eaton Lions Emergency Preparedness, Hospitality And Nourishment Trailer"

In order to maintain the equipment and familiarity with its operation, the trailer is often used to provide catering to support charitable events or sometimes serve sponsors who maintain the equipment and pay for licences, insurance and other ongoing costs.

During the fire season in 2016 the trailer was used for the first time for it's original intended purposes and was set up at the fire control centre at Brunswick Showgrounds to provide catering services to crews fighting the Harvey fires.

World Vision Child Sponsorsip

Several years ago the club used the entire proceeds of a video gaming machine in the Collie Bridge Tavern to sponsor a child in Vietnam. Since that time the source of funds has been lost but we continued the sponsorship. When the original child sponsorship ended, we accepted the request to continuing by sponsoring another child funded by other club activities

Camp Quality  Christmas Barbeque

Annually in mid- December , the club works with Camp Quality to provide a fun filled afternoon BBQ for the kids and their families. We provide and cook BBQ sausages and arrange for Father Christmas to visit. Sometimes we arrange a van to provide free icecreams . We have even arranged  for  a motorbike with side car to provide rides. Camp Quality also arranges for Fire and Emergency Services for rides and water activities. Bouncy castles, face painting and train rides from Australind Lions are also attractions.

Australia Day Breakfast

For several years, the Shire of Dardanup has arranged for Australia Day celebrations on the Eaton foreshore. The Lions Club has been provided funding to serve a free cooked breakfast for patrons. We have sourced, cooked and served breakfast consisting of fruit juice, bacon, eggs, sausages, toast, jam, vegemite, tea, coffee and watermelon. We also raise funds during the breakfast by asking for a gold coin donation. Funds are generally but not always for a specified purpose. Recently we have also been assisted by the Lions Club of Millbridge. From 2015 the Shire of Dardanup wants to leave the organisation of the entire event to the Lions Clubs but will continue to fund the arrangements.

January 2016

Eaton Foreshore Festival

Each March local schools run a fundraising festival on the Eaton foreshore. As a community service, we assist by arranging and managing parking throughout the day.  We also raise funds during the day by asking for a gold coin donation. Funds are generally but not always for a specified purpose.

School Awards

The Lions Club of Eaton donate towards end-of-year awards to four local schools. Generally a representative of the club attends the presentations at Eaton primary school, Clifton Park primary school, Eaton Community College And Glen Huon Primary School. Donations have been already approved for the 4 schools again in 2014

Christmas Hampers

The Lions Club of Eaton has supported Geoff Goddard (who was a club member) and his wife Jeni in an annual Christmas Hamper project. Originally only a few hampers were distributed but with the assistance of other donors and supporters in 2014 over 40 hampers were sourced, packed and delivered

December 2015

The Lions Club of Eaton receives an endless variety of referrals and requests for financial assistance from Lions foundations, Health service providers, Red Cross, Disaster relief efforts, disadvantaged families, sporting or educational groups.

All the requests are tabled at our meetings and where we can, we decide how best to assist. We try and balance local community support with the needs of the wider community.

Brunswick Show

For many years the Brunswick Agricultural show has been our biggest one-day fundraising event. All our members are expected to help on the big day in October. Besides providing a service by allowing a large community event run smoothly, we raise funds by accepting a portion of the gate takings where we man the ticket boxes and manage parking throughout the entire day from 6:00am to 6:00pm. Recently the staff needed has been more than our club can muster alone so we have enlisted on a pro-rata basis the help from the Lions Clubs of Australind and Millbridge.

October 2015

Fundraising BBQs

During the year we normally attend several fund-raising BBQs where we sell cooked sausages drinks etc.

Sometimes we have been paid by an organisation to provide the service to patrons or visitors at an event such as an organisation’s open day or a golf day.
